From me to you: If you're feeling behind, you're not

I have been thinking a lot lately about the word behind. People say it to us all the time.

In a world where we're overloaded with news articles of doom, or the Instagram reel that is anything but real, we can start to feel pretty awful about where we are at, compared to our perception of others.

From the context of debt, which is mainly why people talk to us, they tell us that they feel behind compared to everyone else, or they are embarrrassed that they "should have sorted this years ago!"

And I get it. I really do (if you see me in the street ask my about my own internal voice on this!).

From the outside, it can feel like everyone else has it together. Like there is some invisible timeline you have missed.

But sitting where we sit, reading thousands of applications and hearing people’s stories, I can tell you something with absolute certainty: there is no on time. There is only real life.

Real life is messy

Real life includes things you did not plan for, things you did not choose, and things you are still carrying. The system wants neat answers, clean data, and predictable behaviour. But people are not like that.

At Money Sweetspot, we built this because we were tired of seeing people judged by a snapshot rather than understood as a whole story. If you take the time to listen, really listen, you see effort, intent, and people trying, even when it is hard.

You are not behind

So if you are feeling behind right now, I want you to hear this clearly: you are not behind. You are in the middle of something. And the middle is where change actually happens.

Not at the beginning, when everything feels possible. Not at the end, when everything looks tidy. Here, in the work, in the small decisions, and in the moments where you keep going. That is the part that counts.

Take this little note as a nudge from me, especially if you're looking at unopened bills, or you know you've missed a payment. The baby step leads to the giant leap. GO!
