October 10, 2023

Did you see this on Fair Go yesterday?

Pretty horrific, right? Especially as Sarah and her partner are now trying to buy their first home.

You can check your credit reports with the three credit bureaus for free:

✅Centrix https://www.centrix.co.nz/my-credit-score/

✅Equifax https://www.mycreditfile.co.nz/

✅Illion https://www.creditcheck.illion.co.nz/auth/signup

It’s worth having a look at your report and keeping a check on your score. And if you see anything that’s wrong make sure you tell them!

The things you can keep on track with that can affect your score are:

🆙 Paying bills, like utilities, on time

🆙 Keeping on top of your loan and credit card repayments

Other things that can affect your score are:

👉🏼 Your age

👉🏼 Your lending history

👉🏼 Address changes

👉🏼 Defaults - when a lender has told the credit bureau you haven’t paid

👉🏼 If any debt has been sent to a debt collector

Anyone who believes they are a victim of identity theft can find free support and advice on the ID Care website and helpline Money Talks.
